A Bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice Sanjiv Khanna has taken suo motu cognisance of the poor disposal rates of child sexual offences cases nation-wide. On 25 July 2019, the Court directed all States to ensure that exclusive Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) courts are set up within 60 days in every district where more than 100 cases have been registered under the POCSO Act, 2012.  Further, the Court directed the concerned authorities to ensure that all existing Forensic Science Laboratories are functioning in an effective manner.

Today, in a brief hearing, the Chief Justice Gogoi listed the matter before Justice Deepak Gupta’s Bench. Chief Justice Gogoi is retiring next week on November 17th. The Court did not announce when it will next hear the case.
