Analysis of annual trend in appointment of judges to Supreme Court.
Ranjan Gogoi CJI, on November 2nd 2018, appointed 4 new Justices to the Supreme Court of India: MR Shah, H Gupta, A Rastogi and RS Reddy JJ. This raised the number of judicial appointments to the Supreme Court to 8 for 2018. The other 4 appointments in 2018 occurred under retired Dipak Misra CJI‘s tenure. Currently the strength of the Supreme Court is 28, 3 short of the sanctioned strength of 31.

2018: 8
2018 sees the second highest number of appointments to the Supreme Court with 8 appointments. Only 2014 saw a higher number of judicial appointments to the Supreme Court with 9 appointments.
The number of appointments per year has consistently increased since 2015. 2015 saw the lowest number of appointments in the 2012 to 2018 time period with only 1 appointment.
