11.7% of High Court Judges are Women

11.7% of all the current judges of the 25 High Courts in India, are women.

76 out of the 650 occupied High Court judges are currently women. This amounts to 11.7% of all the current judges of the 25 High Courts in India. The 76 women judges amount to 7% the total approved judge strength. The total approved judge strength across all High Courts is 1080.

The High Court of Madras has the highest number of women judges (13) followed by the High Court of Bombay (8). The High Courts of Manipur, Meghalaya, Patna, Tripura and Uttarakhand do not have a woman judge.

The average number of women judges across all High Courts is 3.04. The High Courts of Andhra Pradesh (3), Calcutta (4), Kerala (4), Gujarat (5), Delhi (6), Karnataka (6), Allahabad (7), Punjab and Haryana (7), Bombay (8) and Madras (13) are at or above the average.

The High Courts of Gauhati, Himachal, Jammu & Kashmir; Ladakh, Jharkhand, Orissa, Rajasthan and Sikkim have only 1 woman Judge.
