Assam NRC: Arguments (14.02.2017)

On 14th February, the State Co-ordinator NRC, Assam placed before the bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi and Rohinton Nariman a detailed report on the updates to the NRC, in particular, the steps involved and the stage reached; and also the difficulties and obstacles faced by them. Having understood the difficulties and obstacles faced by the State Co-ordinator, the bench was of the view that full liberty should be given to the State-co-ordinator to present before the court such difficulties and seek appropriate orders so that obstacles to moving forward with the NRC updates could be removed or reduced. Also, Mr. P.S. Patwalia, Additional Solicitor General, placed before the bench two copies of the border fencing status report which the court said that it would consider on next date of hearing.
